Palethorpe is an instantly recognisable name with a “sizzle” and yes it is that Henry Palethorpe.
The memorial reads:-
In loving memory of Henry PALETHORPE of Dudley formerly of Birmingham who died March 27th 1880 aged 57 years. Also Clara PALETHORPE his beloved wife who passed away June 14th 1910 in her 81st year. "Rest in peace."
Henry Palethorpe was a butcher but was so concerned at the dumping of cheap bacon and pork from the USA he began producing meat products. The company became the largest maker of sausages in the world at the factory in Dudley Port. In 1967 the factory closed when the company relocated to Market Drayton, where they continued to make sausage rolls, pies and pasties for a number of supermarkets.
